Oscar-nominated actor Graham Greene, best known for his role in Dances With Wolves, has died at the age of 73 following a long illness, his agent confirmed to ABC News.
Greene rose to prominence in the 1990 Kevin Costner film, which won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture. His moving portrayal of Kicking Bird, a Sioux medicine man, earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor and established him as a trailblazer for Indigenous representation in Hollywood.
Beyond Dances With Wolves, Greene built an impressive career spanning decades. His credits include Maverick (1994), Die Hard With a Vengeance (1995), The Green Mile (1999), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), and Molly’s Game (2017).
In a statement, his agent Michael Greene praised him as “a great man of morals, ethics, and character,” adding: “He loved all he did for his people and for the world. He will be eternally missed. We love you, my brother. God bless you.”
Greene is survived by his wife, Hilary Blackmore, their daughter, Lilly Lazare-Greene, and grandson, Tarlo.
